During World War II, Mr. Farber served with the Army Air Forces in Turkey and North Africa. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard in 1946 and later joined his father's business.Mr. Farber, who lectured frequently about industrial design and received many awards in the field, was also a major collector of outsider art, including work by Henry Darger and Martín Ramírez. As a board member of the American Folk Art Museum in New York, he helped secure the architectural firm Tod Williams, Billie Tsien & Associates to design the museum's former home on West 53rd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.
Opened in 2001 and widely praised by critics, the building is now owned by its neighbor, the Museum of Modern Art.Mr. Farber's first marriage, to Joan Levine, ended in divorce. In addition to his wife, the former Betsey Wells Kriegsman, whom he married in 1985, survivors include two sons from his first marriage, John and Thomas; two stepchildren, Mark Kriegsman and Sue Kriegsman; four granddaughters; and three step-granddaughters.A longtime resident of Manhattan, Mr. Farber lived most recently in Lexington, Mass.Today, Oxo is owned by Helen of Troy, a maker of personal care products. Its Good Grips line now comprises hundreds of items, including cleaning, gardening and barbecue tools. All for the want of a painless peeler a quarter-century ago."It's hard to think of a vegetable peeler as radical," Mr. Farber told The Los Angeles Times in 2000. "But I guess it was."
s the Miami Heat rounded the homestretch of today's parade, InterContinental staff and guests took to a small stage along the parade's route to smash ladles against soup pots and smack spoons against baking pans. The cacophonous pots and pans celebration has become synonymous with sporting success in South Florida. The Sun Sentinel and WSVN have both taken stabs at explaining the tradition, each ultimately pointing towards Latin American political demonstrations as the potential source. Now pots and pans are being embraced as a mainstream Miami tradition, as evidenced by the InterContinental's "pots and pans private party".

Meeting About Fracking, Plus More Tips for the Week Ahead
As Monica says, it was Sean and Audrey referring afterward to "mom's house" and "dad's house" that led her to the idea of what they call a "progressive" home. A home the children could call theirs.Monica tells of how they were touring the home a few weeks before the possession date. Audrey was wearing sparkling, red shoes like Dorothy's in the Wizard of Oz."She was clicking her heels together, repeating 'Lifetime Brands Appoints Daniel T Siegel President" Monica says. It's Monday, and that means we've put together this list of things going on in White Lake and Highland to help make your week a little brighter, easier and more fun. For a full list of things to do this week, look at the Patch calendar of events.
There has been a lot of talk lately about seismic testing and fracking in White Lake and Highland. If you have questions, you can join Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner, Jim Nash on Tuesday, June 25 at 6 p.m. at the Highland Adult Activity Center, 209 N. John Street. Nash will be on hand to answer your questions about any activity happening in your area. Learn more about a new interactive mapping system the White Lake Fire Department is using, and watch a video showing how it works. Something for everyone! Furniture, kitchenware, larger-parrot cages, dishes, books, movies, toys, collectibles, religious items, and so much more--all reasonably priced. Open from 9:30 AM until 4:30 PM for Friday, June 28th and Saturday, June 29th. Proceeds will benefit the Dominican Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Join the fun at the Milford High School Campus on Saturday, June 29th from 3pm to fireworks. There will be a farmers market, music, food vendors, Market Ally with crafts, antiques, art and much much more. For the families we have created a "Kid Zone" with activities for the young and those pretending to be young to enjoy. The Heavner Kid Zone will have games, dog training lessons, pony rides $3, pie eating contests, cake walks, donut eating contest, crafting, magicians, Elvis, The Blues Brothers, photo booth, kites, an obstacle course, a scavenger hunt and The Big Kayak Race at 8 pm! Bring a blanket or a chair, but definitely be there.

Lifetime Brands Appoints Daniel T Siegel President
Around the same time as the new alcohol restrictions, the city of Ankara hosted a "kiss-in" as a reaction to an announcement on the city subway system warning people to behave in "accordance with moral codes." Erdo?an's entreaties earlier in the year for Turks to have at least three children were perceived as yet another intrusion into private life. But in the end, it was a small patch of green about to disappear in the middle of the city that sparked protests which look poised to shift Turkey's course, or at least halt its current direction. When thousands gathered in the dark morning hours of June 1, crossing the Bosphorus Bridge from Asia by foot over to Europe, heading in droves to Gezi Park and Taksim to join a demonstration against Erdo?an and his leadership, the noise was so loud I could hear them as I lay in bed, miles away.
Since moving to Turkey nearly two decades ago, I have witnessed other critical events in its recent history, beginning with the February 1997 coup that toppled the country's first Islamic-led government. The ruling Welfare Party was banned, but its members, including Erdo?an, would soon reemerge in today's governing AK Party. It was the country's fourth and last coup; since the founding of the Turkish Republic in 1923 with Ataturk, an army officer, at its helm, the military had served to guard the staunchly secular state he envisioned.
Turkish society has been polarized by that vision ever since—some vociferously embrace Ataturk's principles, while others, who might appreciate his place in history, find that religion has been far too suppressed. The conflict has had fuel poured over it from time to time too, as with the headscarf ban in Turkish universities, implemented a few decades ago and still in place. When the overtly religious though moderate AK Party swept its first, second, and then third rounds of general elections, taking single-handed as opposed to coalition power in Ankara, it signaled an enormous shift. Voters not only selected a party with an entrepreneurial spirit, they supported one that didn't want to compromise on what it perceived as key cultural values and religious beliefs.

NVIDIA SHIELD accessories revealed by Nyko
The NVIDIA SHIELD is just about ready to begin shipping and while there are some official accessories available, another company has since stepped forward with a few options. That company is Nyko and they have announced a dock and power kit as well as two case options for the NVIDIA SHIELD. The announcement is coming out of E3 and sadly, does not include a specific release date or any details on the pricing. With that in mind, how about we first cover the travel case and the shell case. These will both fully cover and protect the SHIELD. Each will have a rubberized interior along with a detachable accessory bag for the power adapter or other smaller items. The travel case will be an EVA soft case and the shell case will be a high-impart hard case. Otherwise, while a specific release date has yet to be revealed, Nyko has said these will both be available "this summer."
Next up is the dock. This one is said to be coming "later this year" and will bring features to include Nyko's dongle charging system as well as a full-sized HDMI port. Basically, this dock will allow you to easily connect your SHIELD to a television and also charge your system. The dock will also allow the user to use a Nyko PlayPad, which should have the SHIELD feeling just like a regular desktop gaming system. The power kit is just what the name would imply — a way to keep your SHIELD powered up regardless of where you are playing. The power kit will include cables to keep your system charged at home and in the car. Those making the purchase can expect to find one AC adapter, one car adapter and one extra-long microUSB cable with a velcro strap. Similar to the cases, the power kit will be available sometime "this summer."
Looking towards NVIDIA, they are offering a SHIELD carry case that is priced at $39.99. The NVIDIA case is currently available for pre-order, just like the actual SHIELD system. For those who have yet to place a pre-order, the SHIELD is priced at $349.99 and still expected to begin shipping before the end of June.Few things are worse than worrying about your controller's battery level, so Nyko is preparing a Charge Base for use with both next generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Each base will include two charging stations, with the Xbox One version packaged with a pair of rechargeable batteries while the PlayStation 4 model uses Nyko's USB charging dongle system.

MonkeyWish helping tornado victims ask for specific donations
MonkeyWish. CEO Kristi Taylor says that driving through Oklahoma City on Sunday was quite an experience since none of the street lights worked, but otherwise the tornado damage was not unlike what she has seen in Gainesville following hurricanes with signs blown down. Then she arrived in Moore, Okla., site of the EF5 tornado that killed 24 people on May 20."It literally looks like it"s the atomic bomb," she said by phone Wednesday from Moore. "There"s a perfectly good Starbucks and right beside that a 50,000-square-foot movie theater that"s a pile of rubble."The Gainesville resident is spending the week in Oklahoma with her 17-year-old daughter, Lauren, to sign up nonprofits and tornado victims to use her online wish list service to replace household items lost or damaged in the tornado.
MonkeyWish was founded in 2011 to allow people to compile wish lists from any online retailer for gift giving occasions. The company launched a new service for nonprofit organizations Tuesday at MonkeyWish./give with a list of items from Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church of Moore such as bedding and kitchenware to give to nearby families affected by the storm.Taylor said she hopes the service can help avoid the problem of waste because the right people aren"t getting the right things. She said she has seen crates of bottled water destroyed by the elements and food spoiling in coolers by the side of the road."What good are canned goods if you don"t have a plate or a pot?"
Several tornado victims also have set up lists of their own through the company"s regular service to share with their family and friends, she said. The company"s new nonprofit service is available at no charge to any nonprofit organization to help gather needed items."Williams-Sonoma, the San Francisco-based retailer of kitchenware and home furnishings, launched an agrarian product line a year ago featuring designer chicken coops."We're selling them from Seattle to Boston to Florida," said Allison O'Connor, the company's vice president of merchandising. The marketing program was developed in part to satisfy customer demand for safe, wholesome foods, O'Connor said."Having farm fresh eggs is a new experience for a great many people," she said. "People are looking at chickens more as family pets Create Visual Appeal With Marble Kitchenware — as extensions of their family. We're up to nine coops now and will be introducing a couple more next month."

Contemporary kitchenware has been lifted to an artistic level by designers who look for the best materials, textures and design lines to convey a sense of beauty and functionality.Helping you get a grip on each spaghetti portion, this marble spaghetti measurement collection comes from the creative minds of Studio Lievito. These four kitchenware items help you decide the right portion for one, two, three or four persons, depending on your guest list. With their clean geometric lines, the spaghetti measuring tools are an elegant way of displaying your kitchen tools in a contemporary environment.
Have you been to Umami Mart in Oakland yet? The Japanese kitchenware and bar shop that grew out of a blog opened almost a year ago, chock full of unique tools and home to myriad events.Owners (and newly crowned Stylemakers) Kayoko Akabori and Yoko Kumano are now popping the lid on phase two of Umami Mart: U-Mart.Tucked in the back of the shop, U-Mart will be a Japanese convenience shop, dubbed a combini. Here"s how combini culture in Japan is described by one travel guide:It is said that in Japan there is a combini for 2 000 inhabitants. They are found literally at every street corner in the major cities, but are also present in smaller cities and rural areas. The combini stores are so widespread that people are surprised when they hear of a place (generally small remote islands) without a combini.
U-Mart might not be open 24 hours a day, but it will sell various Japanese snacks, candies, dried foods, rice balls, cold non-alcoholic drinks, magazines, other condiments and cooking ingredients. Umami Mart, with its new floors, is bringing in the store"s original designer, Copenhagen-based Ander Arhoj to design the combini; see a rendering above.

Gamma Knife surgery is recognized worldwide as the preferred treatment for brain tumors, arteriovenous malformations and brain dysfunctions such as trigeminal neuralgia. It is supported by over 2,500 peer reviewed research articles that are primarily published in neurosurgery journals. The Gamma Knife' offers a non-invasive alternative for many patients for whom traditional brain surgery is not an option. Gamma Knife' surgery removes the physical trauma and the majority of risks associated with conventional surgery. This effective single session treatment may require an overnight hospital stay, but is often done in an outpatient surgical setting with periodic Most Demanded Types of Knife or Knives Sharpener. It has been proven safe over the long term and is recognized and covered by insurance plans.
The same as neurosurgery, the Gamma Knife allows noninvasive cerebral surgery to be performed in one session and with extreme precision, sparing tissues adjacent to the target. Based on preoperative radiological examinations, such as CT scans, MR scans and angiography, the unit provides highly accurate irradiation of deep-seated targets, using a multitude of collimated beams of ionizing radiation with scalpel-like precision.Gamma Knife surgery represents a major advance in brain surgery, and in the last three decades has changed the landscape within the field of neurosurgery. Its development has enhanced neurosurgical treatments offered to patients with brain tumors and vascular malformations by providing a safe, accurate and reliable treatment option. Gamma Knife enables patients to undergo a non-invasive form of brain surgery without surgical risks, a long hospital stay or subsequent rehabilitation.
Like other radiosurgery, Gamma Knife' surgery is unique in that no surgical incision is made to expose the inside of the brain, thereby reducing the risk of surgical complications and eliminating the side effects and dangers of general anesthesia. The "blades" of the Gamma Knife' are the beams of gamma radiation programmed to target the lesion at the point where they intersect. In a single treatment session, 201 beams of gamma radiation focus precisely on the lesion. Over time, most lesions slowly decrease in size and dissolve. The exposure is brief and only the tissue being treated receives a significant radiation dose, while the surrounding tissue remains unharmed.
